Coming Home

The Straits of Malacca has been a pathway for traders since centuries back. On the northern end of the Straits is the island of Penang where ships that ply the oceans come to berth before moving on. In this picture taken from the 30th floor of a beachside hotel, a fisherman returns from the sea, cutting through the oil spills left behind by the ships. This shot was taken around noon, a perfect time for the Sun to highlight the oil streaks. But at the same time, an approaching storm caused the gloominess of this picture and the many ripples of waves in almost parallel horizontal lines. It also caused the fisherman to rush home, leaving behind a trail of fast movement through the oil. I like this picture because it captured the gloominess of water pollution and the perfect formation of waves in straight lines.
