Rules of the Contest

Competition themes

All photographs submitted to the competition must reflect the two themes, I Love Nature and I Fear Pollution (in separate photographs).

Who can enter?

The competition is open to residents of all countries. Entrants must be aged 17 or under at the time of entry. If you are under 17, you must have your parent or legal guardian’s consent to upload images onto the The Children's Eyes On Earth International Photography Contest 2012 competition website.

How to enter?

Entrants must illustrate BOTH of the two themes, I Love Nature and I Fear Pollution and must enter at least one photograph for each theme. Each participant may upload up to 20 images maximum. Captions for each image or series of images must be included.

Photographs must be in digital format and may only be submitted via The Children's Eyes On Earth International Photography Contest 2012 website. All digital images should be at least 1,000 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,000 pixels tall (if a vertical image) and must be in JPEG or JPG format. No print or film submissions will be accepted for entry to the competition. Only minor burning, dodging, cropping and/or colour correction is acceptable and you must clearly note what changes have been made in the image description.

All entrants must be able to supply a high-resolution image, suitable for printing in media or exhibition display, if selected.

Competition dates

The Children's Eyes On Earth International Photography Contest 2012 will open at midnight GMT on 15 June 2012. Entries must be submitted by 11.59:59pm (GMT) on 15 September 2012.

Competition judging

Photographs will be judged on their originality, creativity, photographic quality and relevance to the themes, I Love Nature and I Fear Pollution. Entries will be judged after 16 September 2012 by a panel of Judges and an Advisory Board of photographic and art experts from around the world, chaired by photographer, Reza. The judges’ decisions are final. 

The public vote (4th Prize) : the public will judge a shortlist of 50 images selected by photographer Reza, initiator of this competition. To judge the images, the public will rate each one on a star system from 1 to 5. The image receiving the most important number of stars will win the  prize called "Your Choice" Award.  

Competition winners will be announced online on 2 October 2012.

Competition prizes

· 1st prize: SLR camera, a laptop computer and a photo printer, a trip to Baku in Azerbaijan accompanied by a legal guardian, an invitation to attend to the festival and exhibition, and an exclusive photographic workshop with photographer Reza.

· 2nd prize: SLR camera, an iPad and a photo printer, a trip to Baku in Azerbaijan accompanied by a legal guardian, an invitation to attend to the festival and exhibition, and an exclusive photographic workshop with photographer Reza.

· 3rd prize: SLR camera and a photo printer, a trip to Baku in Azerbaijan accompanied by a legal guardian, an invitation to attend to the festival and exhibition, and an exclusive photographic workshop with photographer Reza.

· Public prize: SLR camera and a photo printer, a trip to Baku in Azerbaijan accompanied by a legal guardian, an invitation to attend to the festival and exhibition and, an exclusive photographic workshop in with photographer Reza.

Use of images and copyright

By entering the competition, entrants agree that any image submitted to the competition may be used by The Children's Eyes On Earth International Photography Contest 2012 and its event partners for marketing and promotional purposes of the competition and the event only, for a maximum of five years after The Children's Eyes On Earth Festival & Exhibition, opening in the last week of November 2012.

The Children's Eyes On Earth International Photography Contest 2012 reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not comply with the following requirements:

  • You are the sole owner, photographer and copyright holder of each entry you make
  • Each entry submitted contains no personally identifiable information about you, or any other person(s).
  • Each entry must not, at the sole and unfettered discretion of the organisers, contain objectionable or inappropriate content.
  • Each entry does not contain any material that could constitute or encourage conduct which would be considered a criminal offence, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law.
  • Each entry does not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any third person or entity, or violate any person’s rights of privacy or publicity, and your entry does not include:
  • trademarks owned by third parties
  • copyrighted materials owned by third parties (including movie dialogue or musical compositions)
  • names, likenesses, voices or other characteristics identifying celebrities or other public figures, living or dead
  • entries which contain any commercial content that promotes any product or service other than that of The Children's Eyes On Earth International Photography Contest 2012
  • entries containing screen credits

You agree to fully indemnify The Children's Eyes On Earth International Photography Contest 2012 in respect of all royalties, fees and any other monies owing to any person by reason of your breaching any of the foregoing.

You confirm that each person depicted in the entry has granted permission to be portrayed as shown. Any costumes, props or other materials used must be rented or borrowed with the permission of the owner, and all other relevant permissions must have been obtained.

Terms and conditions

By entering The Children's Eyes On Earth International Photography Contest 2012, you agree to accept the competition rules and the terms and conditions. You also agree and acknowledge that The Children's Eyes On Earth International Photography Contest 2012 is permitted to receive your registration data. All personal information will be used by The Children's Eyes On Earth International Photography Contest 2012 in accordance with www.childrenseyesonearth.com privacy Policy.

If you are under 17, you must have your parent or legal guardian’s consent to upload images onto the The Children's Eyes On Earth International Photography Contest 2012 competition website. The competition is open to residents of all countries except employees of Webistan, IDEA, WPO (World Photography Organisation) SDN  (Social Documentary Network), National Geographic Kids magazine UK and FotoEvidence, their families, or any associated companies.

Data Privacy
Entrants agree that personal data may be processed, shared, and otherwise used for the purposes and within the context of The Children's Eyes On Earth International Youth Photography Contest, Festival and Exhibition and any other purposes outlined in these Official Rules.
All entrants understand that any image submitted to the competition may be used in connection with the promotion of the event, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Display of the Contest entries on the website, in a book, magazine or similar and at public exhibitions.
  • Inclusion within any materials promoting the contest and any festival or exhibition organised by Children's Eyes On Earth.
  • Promotion of The Children's Eyes On Earth International Youth Photography Contest, Festival and Exhibition within any related products to be sold by Children's Eyes On Earth or any third party, following the individual agreement by the author sub-licensing the entries to the press for reproduction in connection with the competition and any exhibition.
  • Allowing users of the website to view images on a computer screen, PDA or mobile telephone and store such pages in electronic form on disk or on a PDA or mobile telephone (but not on any server or other storage device connected to a network) for their personal, non-commercial use only.

You agree to participate in any related publicity and the use of your name and likeness for the purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity without additional compensation.
The data may also be used by a third party in order to verify the participant's identity, postal address, and telephone number or to otherwise verify the participant's eligibility to participate in the contest.
Participants have the right to access, review, rectify, or cancel any personal data held by by writing to The Children’s Eyes On Earth International Youth Photography Contest, Festival and Exhibition at contact@childrenseyesonearth.org .
Promoter and its affiliates will use personal data exclusively for the purposes stated herein.
NOTICE TO INDIVIDUALS: REMOVAL FROM MAILING LIST: Any individual (or other duly authorised person) may elect to exclude the name and address of that individual from all lists used by The Children’s Eyes On Earth International Youth Photography Contest, Festival and Exhibition. To elect to have an individual's name excluded from all such lists, please submit a removal request in writing to The Children’s Eyes On Earth International Youth Photography Contest, Festival and Exhibition at contact@childrenseyesonearth.org
This notification system may be used to prohibit mailing of all contestants by The Children’s Eyes On Earth International Youth Photography Contest, Festival and Exhibition to such individuals.
